{"id":38,"date":"2012-09-11T10:04:50","date_gmt":"2012-09-11T14:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biancabakelite.com\/macpress\/?page_id=38"},"modified":"2021-01-22T01:13:51","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T01:13:51","slug":"about-farquhar-macrae-of-morvich","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/meetwithfamily.com\/macpress\/?page_id=38","title":{"rendered":"About Farquhar MacRae of Morvich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the time I write this entry, I have found four credible documents that refer to&nbsp;<strong>Farquhar MacRae<\/strong>. &nbsp;In cronological order they are:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>(1)<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Scotland Official Parish Records (OPR) (067\/000 010 0016 Glenshiel)&nbsp;<\/strong>of&nbsp;15 Jun 1815 reflects&nbsp;<em>the marriage of Farquhar MacRae son to&nbsp;<strong>Farquhar MacRae tenant at Morvich<\/strong>&nbsp;and Katherine Maclennan daughter to the late Murdoch MacLennan Kililan<\/em>. &nbsp;Click the following link to view the marriage document:&nbsp;[download id=&#8221;1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>(2)<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Scotland Official Parish Records (OPR) Birth for Donald MacRae&nbsp;<\/strong>of&nbsp;16 Oct 1827 which reflects &#8211;&nbsp;<em>To&nbsp;<strong>Farquhar MacRae alias Farq Oag<\/strong>&nbsp;a son named Donald born 16 Oct 1827<\/em>.&nbsp;Click the following link to view the birth document:&nbsp;[download id=&#8221;3&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: &nbsp;This document was exacting proof of the birth of Donald MacRae due to two reasons: (one) Donald stated his birth year and location on several Scotland Census reports; and (two) there were no other Donald MacRae births to a&nbsp;<strong>Farquhar MacRae<\/strong>&nbsp;in that year in Kintail or Glen Shiel, Scotland.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>(3)<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Scotland Statutory Marriage Records for Donald McRae and Jane Dickie<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(178\/00 0006)<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;15 Nov 1856 which reflects that&nbsp;<em>at Coneyclaich Cairney marriage (after banns) was solomized between Donald and Jane according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. &nbsp;Donald&#8217;s residence at the time was a the Huntly Lodge in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. &nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: &nbsp;This document was, in fact, the FIRST piece of evidence I obtained about&nbsp;<strong>Farquhar MacRae<\/strong>, who Donald listed as his father. &nbsp;Donald also listed Farquhar&#8217;s occupation as being an Agricultural Laborer<em>. &nbsp;<\/em>The research value in this document is the fact that Donald&#8217;s mother is also listed, as&nbsp;<strong>Katherine McLennan<\/strong>, deceased, and that&#8217;s the information I used to locate documents numbered (2) and (1).&nbsp;Click the following link to view the marriage document:&nbsp;[download id=&#8221;5&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>(4)<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;<strong>Scotland Statutory Deaths (141\/00 0031) for Donald McRae<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;19 Dec 1909 which reflects&nbsp;<em>Donald McRae, Retired Shepherd, died at The Croft, Aikenway, parish of Rothes, Elgin County, Scotland.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: &nbsp;Both of Donald&#8217;s parents are still listed with the same names, Farquhar and Katherine, and both are listed as deceased at this time. &nbsp;<strong>Farquhar McRae<\/strong>&#8216;s occupation however, changed from Agricultural Laborer to Fisheurer (fisherman).&nbsp;Click the following link to view Donald MacRae&#8217;s death document:&nbsp;[download id=&#8221;10&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>I now find the necessity to examine each document that lists Farquhar McRae in relationship to a Scotland timeline. &nbsp;Why? &nbsp;Because the most important historical factor about Farquhar McRae was he was living in the Highlands of Scotland during the Highland Clearances.<\/p>\n<p>You can read more about the Highland Clearances at WikiPedia for general background information as I will focus only on what effects the clearances would have (theory) had on Farquhar McRae and his family.
